Cancer & Chamomile

The Cancerian love language is nourishment & protection. In medical astrology, Cancer rules the stomach, breasts, ribs, the membranes surrounding the heart & lungs, & the womb during pregnancy. Areas that feed & protect our most vital areas. These are generally areas that may need a little extra TLC if you have Cancer placements in your natal chart.

Ruled by the Moon, Cancer lives in a watery world of emotional fluctuations- they may feel bright & inspired, fuelled by that determined cardinal energy which surges through any challenge- or they may experience the low tides of fatigue & overwhelm coming from a heightened sensitivity. It is important for people with Cancer placements in their natal chart to honour their needs in the moment, without judgement, & to trust in their body when it tells them it needs rest or quiet.

Cancer rules the stomach, & those with Cancer placements may be more susceptible towards food sensitivities, so it's important to pay attention to which food & substances are triggering to the body. Stress can heighten these sensitivities so creating a calm environment before eating can also help, as well as digging into meals that are warming, easy to digest & nutrient dense.

One of the herbs that I find has with a strong affinity with Cancerian anatomy is Chamomile. Rosemary Gladstar describes the herb as having ‘soft power’, for it’s gentle yet effective nature. It's a beautiful remedy for an upset stomach, improving digestion while also addressing the mind-gut connection by acting on our nervous system & down-regulating the stress response so that we feel safe in our bodies.

Historically, Chamomile has been the go-to herb for women’s reproductive health & pregnancy. It's botanical name Matricaria comes from the Latin word mater, meaning ‘mother’ or matrix meaning ‘womb’. It's also gentle enough to be taken by young children.

Chamomile is a great ally for our soft, sensitive Cancers, both soothing & supportive to the mind & body.
